20.02  Segrate City Centre

The new masterplan for Segrate City Centre provides the city with a new school, housing and civic center through a renewed hierarchy of urban spaces. Starting from a close-reading of the territory surrounding Segrate, the project intended to amplify its actual and potential environmental and infrastructural connotations, highlighting the qualities of the area as intersection between areas with different vocations. The new system generates from a central axis that defines a succession of public spaces hosting the weekly market, bordered by green spaces and by the new buildings. Our proposal continues the existing grain of the city organizing different areas for different vocations: the school sits close to other relevant public buildings on the southern front of the site, while on the northern border a new generous, wide and open courtyard defines the space dedicated to housing.
