18.12 School in Pordenone

The proposal for the new school in the neighbourhood of Torre tries to realize the new building while demolishing the old volumes that now host the didactic activities, guaranteeing the educational continuity through a clear step-by-step intervention strategy, not interfering with students' regular daily school activities. This happens through three consequential stages: 1) Removal of the pre-fabricated volume of the former nursery school / Realization of the new gym; 2) Demolition of the old gym / Realization of the classrooms; 3) Demolition of the old school building / Realization of the new civic center and of the square and urban park. Starting from this programmatic necessity, the new school is designed as a wide roof cover that could host all different activities happening during morning and afternoon hours. A central axis, which hosts the vertical connections and on which all the classrooms and teaching spaces open, works a sort of street connecting this heterogeneous system: a space open both for the students and for the citizens who will live the school as a civic center, where to gather and meet.
