Face to Face. Experiencing Courtyards in the Ancient City of Naples is an exhibition about the inherent predilection that architecture possesses in celebrating proximity and togetherness. Both find a privileged field of application in the stratified landscape of cities, especially in collective spaces weaving the intricate fabric of historic contexts. Exemplary of this, the type of the urban courtyard in the ancient city of Naples unveils an extraordinary authenticity: a place where manifold happenings gather around the porous stone of the walls and the volcanic pavement running from the street up to the house, in an osmotic exchange between public and private space. The exhibition intends to stage and encourage the experience of Neapolitan courtyards as an incredible catalogue of ordinary situations and unexpected events, their façades as silent affordances for the open and endless narration that enables life to happen.
